I got to Jerid's room in ICU today just in time for him to move. Yippee! What a hurdle we're over. Next stop- Silverstien 11. Yes, that's right, the floor above where he was after transplant. Only this time we have the best room in the house. (the floor anyway)
Side note: Did you know that they have this area of the hospital call The Pavilion? It's a
section with private rooms that are luxury. You pay extra of course, but they have
computers and fancy TVs and gourmet meals and flavored coffees. I've heard they cost
about as much as a suite in a hotel in the city.
I'm just happy because our room is very clean, has a nice view with lots of sunlight and a comfortable chair for me to sit in.
One big thing that happened was that Jerid got a chest tube out. Yeah! As long as the Xrays from tonight and tomorrow morning look good he'll get the other one out tomorrow. Then there's no holding him back. He'll be off the pain meds and will be able to go downstairs to the gym and exercise and get all better.
We also spoke with Dr. Gillespie (Jerid's main interventional pulmonologist for those keeping track) and he's got a plan. He says that he's always thinking of how we can make each bronchoscopy Jerid's last. Last big one where they're not dealing with stents, anyway. So he talked for quite a while about a plan that he has hatched involving an hourglass shaped stent which he will modify by cutting, sanding and applying silicone. (Why do boys always love to modify things?) I asked him if he had a tool shed on the other side of the O.R. I don't think that Dr. Gillespie ever truly appreciates my sense of humor. When I crack jokes he just looks at me and then continues talking. But don't worry. I'll get that man to laugh.
So basically, if this plan works (which he says will not be easy and may not) then Jerid shouldn't need another stent for at least 6 months but hopefully a year. Sounds good to me. Bring it on.
Our job now is to get Jerid really healthy and strong before the big bronch. The bronch will happen either next Wednesday or Thursday. And no later than that because if you remember, the metal stent can only stay in for up to 2 weeks.
If you haven't been praying or chanting or dancing, or whatever it is you do, now is the time. This is the big one. WE WANT JERID HOME. And home healthy and feeling good.
Why aren't you dancing yet? Quit reading this stupid blog and go dance!

The sun is rising. Good news!! So happy to hear J is out of ICU and the chest tubes are beginning to come out. You know as well as I do it is only fitting Jerid have a modified piece of medical equipment inside him. I will not be surprised if Jerid will be assisting the doctor in the necessary modifications... you know, his PopSci magazine wide open and Post-Its strung up throughout the room with sketches.
That is how I see Jerid right now!
Go J.! keep fighting... we got your back. Prayers, dancing and chanting in full-swing.

Very awesome to hear. I have a big smile on my face as I'm typing this. I have faith that you will get that Dr. to laugh and when it happens it will probably be something that you or I wouldn't think is that funny anyway. Dr. sometimes have an odd sense of humor. Glad he got moved out of cell block ICU and into the nicer stuff. YEA - the prayers and what not are helping. WHEW HEW -

We are dancing, prancing, chanting and praying. We'll keep this up at our end and you keep your big girl panties on at yours. Keep Jerid moving in this improved direction and make him do his part. That's Mizz Daniels orders!
We are praying, dancing, chanting, and radiating our love Jerid's way, and we will get Jerid healthy, strong, and HOME!!!
Rinny, You keep up that sense of humor, and phewy on the stinky doctor that doesn't get your jokes. :) You need to, just to keep yourself sane. Keep things real you know? We love you, Liz
