So I immediately got him up and we went for a walk. A fairly long one... 4 trips up and down the hall and a loop. Not too shabby.
Then guess what we did?? WE WENT OUTSIDE! Yesterday the lung coordinator said that we could. When I told the nurse, that's when she got snippy. I said "we need a wheelchair because they said that I could take Jerid outside". She said "who's they?" and I said "Kevin Carney" and she said "Oh." She said that she would call the doctor and look into it. 10 minutes later she was back with a wheelchair. Uh huh. That's what I thought.
So for the first time in 21 days, Jerid left his room and we went outside. I don't think that he realized how much he needed and missed it until we got out there. It was a perfect summer day. Not too hot with a beautiful breeze. For a while, we just sat under a tree (me on a bench and him in the chair) where the sunlight just barely filtered through. We watched squirrels playing and birds and people walking by. It wasn't very busy since it was the weekend. Then I pushed him all over the place. Boy did I get a workout! We were outside for about an hour and a half and then went in because Jerid had to pee. It was just what the doctor ordered. (The outside, not the pee.) I really meant to take a picture of Jerid sitting outside, but forgot to. But we did take a picture of this squirrel laying flat on his belly. I'm not sure what he was doing, but he got up after a bit so he was OK.
When we got back to the room I was starving, and after one look at the dinner tray that was waiting, we ordered Chinese. Mmmmm.... some of the best I ever had. We both stuffed ourselves.
Jerid was super duper tired by this point, but I wouldn't let him out of another walk. So off we went. As we were strolling along the halls, I happened to glance in a room. A man was sitting in his chair facing the door with just his gown on and his legs spread. Before I could avert my eyes... I saw it... the whole kit and kaboodle. And I believe he's having the same swelling problem as Jerid. If only I could erase it from my mind. The only thing I could do was save others so I grabbed a nurse that I really like and said "Erin! You better close his curtain!" She did and thanked me several times. What can I say? I'm a hero.
By then, Jerid was exhausted. I spoke with the night nurse, and they're giving him a sleeping pill tonight. Along with 4mg. of Dillaudid every 3 hours. And she was going to do his dressing changes before he went to sleep.Hopefully he'll get some much needed sleep.
Also, Jerid's creatinine level went down! From a 6.1 to a 5.3. This is very good! And since all of his other levels are good, he may get to come home in the middle of next week. Fingers crossed!
Well, I'd love to chat more, but I've got a date. No, not with the man down the hall from Jerid. With an almost seventeen year old stud who wears round glasses and rides a broom. Actually, Ron's more my type. Happy reading to all the HP fans!

That is the funniest squirel I have ever seen! I am so so so so glad to hear Jerid got to go outside. I am celebrating the lower levels, the long walks, and the trip outside. Jerid, You are so awesome! I can't wait to se you! And, keep an eye on Marin, if she leaves early, you need to make sure she isn't visiting the guy down the hall, I think she has a thing for grapefruits now! I love you guys, and Marin, thank you for still posting, I know it was hard to tear yourself away from that book!
Loved this blog, it was so fun to read. How awesome to go outside. It doesn't sound like much of anything but I bet it was awesome for Jerid. You sound so relaxed in this blog Marin, not sure if it is the fact that you know things are starting to be more normal again, or that you are totally stoked about HP. HA HA, just wanted to say I'm so happy for you both. Have a great rest of the weekend.
Love ya Shannon
Hello you two! Happy weekend. So happy to hear the creatine level went down. Only you Marin would forget to take pic of Jerid outside yet find a squirrel laying on his belly. A Hilarious, head scratching photo. I am praying for the middle of week release for Jerid. I do know he will want some really good pizza soon!!
Love, Ty
This message is for Jerid's eyes only!.. so everyone hide your eyes till I tell you its o.k. to look.
Jerid, it was SO GREAT to see your face and especially with you smiling. It's been so long since I've seen you. All we have been seeing is parts of your body. Although it was nice seeing your body parts, they don't smile. Its not the same without your face attached. I hope that you don't regret letting Marin report all of your bodily functions to everyone and your swollen parts as well. By the way, you should ask if they have Ted Hose to fit grapefruit. That may be very helpful for you if they do. I miss you very much Jerid. I keep thinking about the last hug I gave you at your fundraiser. Marin had said to me that I wouldn't be seeing you for 3 months. If only it had just been only 3 months.
I Love You Jerid,
Joann
P.S. You need to get your voice back so we can talk about medical stuff. Marin says you whisper at this time and my hearing is fading.

O.K. Everyone can look now. We all know that the Jerid Smith family is awesome, enspiring and that we love them so much.
All of their Friends and family out there are also awesome too, giving so much of themselves like cleaning your house, praying and chanting and being so encouraging.
Rick and Rose are also awesome. We all know how much they love Annie and that enjoy keeping her for Marin. But when you really think about it, it has to be hard at times. They really aren't free any more. They can't just get up and go. They have to put Annie's needs before their own. Annie tries to pay them back for their love and care by her beauthful smile, yummie kisses and hugs, and her shennagins. So Thank You Rose and Rick. We appredciate you and love you so much.

O
Hey Marin,
Check out the hilarious typo in the sentence that starts "He hadn't even been out of bed yet..." Given our conversation about the nurse, it's no surprise that your finger slipped.
Do you think you should be telling the folks back home about your late nights in the hot tub with a glass of wine AND my husband? What will they think? And what will Jerid think??
To all of the Smiths' friends far and wide, you can see that we're trying to take care of her.

THE SQUIRREL IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE "SIGN", ...HE IS SAYING , HANG IN THERE BUDDY".
Now it's time to thank Page and Jim for the excellent care they gave Jerid when he was home. He told me Page is his third mother. That was a good, positive statement. Thank you Page and Jim from the bottom of our hearts for making him part of your family. We all love him so much and it's nice to know that he is with a loving family that takes such good care of him.
As Marin's Mom, I thank you Page and Jim for taking such good care of my baby too. I know she feels at home and needs you both. I'm so glad that she has another home away from home. Little did she know that when she married Jerid she would have so many new wonderful families in her life.
Again, Thank You so much,
Joann
J.E.aka and Marin,
I looked at that picture for a long time trying to figure out what it was, then decided to just read on....thank goodness you to told us, but once you did, it was quite obvious! So glad to hear you finally got outdoors. I imagine you felt like you had escaped...and to think you may be leaving for home this week. That has to be the best feeling. Everyone here is so grateful to Page and Jim for providing you with such a wonderful home environment filled with so much love. Please thank them from us for taking such good care of you and Marin. I hope one day they can come here and we will all have a family reunion. How is the book going Marin? Zach got his copy today and my, it was thick one. Should keep you busy for a while.
Love you,
Aunt Janice and Uncle Kenny
Marin has told me so many wonderful things about Page and Jim! What a comfort to have a "home" to go to at the end of her long days and know there are people to lean on and take comfort from. I know how relieved Jerid was to have found them.
I can't believe how much progress Jerid is making. Has anyone ever told you that you're kind of a freak of nature? You constantly amaze me.
Love to all. Adrienne
